					</table><p><a href="https://www.cip.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners</a> (CIP), through its Growth Markets Fund II, has reached financial close for the La Esperanza Solar project in Mexico.</p>
<p>Located in Campeche, Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula, the project will comprise 420 MW of solar capacity and a 150 MW/750 MWh battery energy storage system.</p>
<p>La Esperanza Solar is CIP’s first investment in Mexico to reach financial close, with commercial operations expected in 2028. Construction of the project has begun.</p>
<p>The project has secured approximately $510 million in debt facilities from BNP Paribas, JPMorgan Chase Bank, Natixis Corporate and Investment Banking, Santander, and Scotiabank.</p>
<p>Equity is funded by the project owners: CI Growth Markets Fund II with a co-investment from Mexican retirement fund administrator Profuturo.</p>
<p>La Esperanza Solar has also secured a long-term power purchase agreement with CFE Calificados, the commercial arm of Comisión Federal de Electricidad serving large customers.</p>
<p>CIP said the project is being developed in coordination with the federal government and relevant authorities.</p>
<p>According to CIP, the battery storage system will support the reliability, resilience, and flexibility of the electricity system on the Yucatán Peninsula. The company said rising electricity demand in the region has increased the need for additional generation and storage capacity.</p>
<p>“We have been active in Mexico for several years, and this will be our first project in the country to start construction – a step that reflects both the strength of the team and project and the close collaboration with contractors, authorities, and partners. Pairing solar with battery storage is central to bringing more renewable energy onto the Mexican grid, and we are proud to help build a more reliable, lower-carbon power system,” said Peter Halmø, Head of Latin America and Managing Director at CIP.</p>
<p>Announced large-scale solar project funding increased by 71% in the first half of 2026 compared with the funding raised in the same period in 2025, according to Mercom’s recently <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/product/1h-and-q2-2026-solar-funding-and-ma-report/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">released</a> 1H and Q2 2026 Solar Funding and M&amp;A report.</p>
<p>Recently, Avantus, a U.S. developer, owner, and operator of utility-scale solar and energy storage projects, has <a href="https://mercomcapital.com/avantus-closes-1-billion-credit-facility-to-expand-project-portfolio/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">closed</a> a $1.05 billion corporate credit facility to support the expansion of its renewable energy portfolio.</p>


CIP Secures $510 Million for Solar Plus Storage Project in Mexico

<p><a href="https://www.cip.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners</a> (CIP), a fund manager within greenfield energy investments, on behalf of its fund Copenhagen Infrastructure IV (CI IV), has entered into an agreement to divest a 50% ownership stake in the Coalburn 2 project to funds managed by <a href="https://aipmanagement.dk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">AIP Management</a>, an investor that specializes in energy and decarbonization infrastructure.</p>
<p>The Coalburn 2 project, located in South Lanarkshire, southern Scotland, is a 500 MW/1,000 MWh lithium-ion storage project currently under construction. CIP, which made its financial investment decision in late 2024, will continue the construction, while the ownership transfer to AIP will occur upon commissioning.</p>
<p>The project benefits from strong contractual backing, including a 10-year optimization agreement with SSE and a 15-year capacity market contract, expected to ensure stable returns with potential for market upside. It is one of three utility-scale BESS assets being built by CIP and Alcemi in Scotland, with a total operational capacity of 1.5 GW/3 GWh.</p>

<p>According to Mercom&#8217;s 1H and Q2 2025 Funding and M&amp;A <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/product/1h-2025-funding-ma-report-energy-storage/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Report</a> for Energy Storage report, announced Energy Storage project financing increased 168% year-over-year in 2025.</p>
<p>In September, DRI, an Amsterdam-based renewable energy company and a subsidiary of the DTEK Group, <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/dri-acquires-112-mw-448-mwh-battery-storage-project-in-poland/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">announced</a> the acquisition of rights to build a 112 MW/448 MWh battery energy storage system from Greenvolt Group, a renewable energy project developer. The project, located in Kozienice, Poland, was acquired through Greenvolt Power, a renewable energy project developer.</p>


CIP Sells 50% Stake in Coalburn 2 Battery Project to AIP Management

<p><strong>ZE Energy, a France-based solar and energy storage project developer, </strong><a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/ze-energy-secures-financing-for-77-mw-solar-and-storage-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>closed</strong></a><strong> an assetco financing to construct a 77 MWp solar project coupled</strong> with a 14.8 MW/33.5 MWh lithium-ion battery storage project. Sienna Investment Managers, a European asset manager firm, will provide the funding under its Predirec ENR 2 fund. The utility-scale hybrid project is located in Vert, Landes, France.</p>
<p><strong>Grenergy, an independent solar and wind power producer, has </strong><a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/grenergy-acquires-1-gw-solar-projects-from-repsol-and-ibereolica/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>acquired</strong></a><strong> 1 GW of solar projects, including a 1 GW energized line, from Repsol and Ibereólica</strong>. The company will invest $128 million in this transaction. The transaction comprises the purchase of a 77 MW solar project and a solar portfolio totaling 923 MW in various stages of development.</p>
<p><strong>Emeren Group, a solar project developer, announced the <a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/emeren-sells-57-mw-solar-project-portfolio/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">sale</a> of 57 MW solar project portfolio to Trina Solar Systems, the French subsidiary of Trina Solar International System Business Unit</strong>. The portfolio consists of five solar projects in various stages of development. Of these five, one is in the early stage and one in the late stage, both sold in Q3 2024 to Trina. The remaining three projects are in the mid-stage to be monetized. In addition, there is potential for the addition of battery energy storage systems.</p>

<p><strong>BayWa r.e., a developer of renewable energy projects, </strong><a href="https://cms.mercomindia.com/baywa-r-e-sells-solar-projects-totaling-222-mw-to-octopus-energy-generation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><strong>announced</strong></a><strong> the sale of four solar projects to Octopus Energy Generation, a renewable energy investment firm</strong>. The projects have a combined capacity of 222 MWp across the UK. All three projects are ready to build, with construction scheduled to begin this year. The construction of the fourth project will start in 2025, and all are expected to reach commercial operations between 2025 and 2026.</p>

					</table><p>Denmark-based Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (<a href="https://www.cip.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CIP</a>) has taken a final investment decision on a 300 MW onshore wind project being built jointly with Indian developer and balance-of-plant service provider <a href="https://www.viviidrenewables.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Viviid Renewables</a> in Hatalageri, Gadag district, Karnataka.</p>
<p>This final investment decision was taken through CIP’s Growth Markets Fund I (CI GMF I).</p>
<p>CIP also signed equipment orders for the full project capacity, while Viviid, which holds a minority ownership position in the project, will provide balance-of-plant works and services.</p>
<p>Construction of the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2025.</p>
<p>In January 2023, the two companies entered into a framework agreement to develop at least 1.8 GW of renewable energy projects in India. This is the first project being constructed as part of the agreement. Further project developments already initiated by the companies will materialize through CI GMF I’s successor fund, CI GMF II.</p>
<p>The project is part of the commitment made by the two companies in 2023 to <u><a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/copenhagen-viviid-develop-renewable-projects-india" target="_blank" rel="noopener">develop</a></u> more than 1.8 GW of greenfield renewable energy projects in India.</p>
<p>“Achieving FID is a significant milestone for CIP and for our partnership with Viviid. It is a testament to our industrial approach and ability to deliver large-scale renewable energy projects with highly competent partners,” said Peter Sjøntoft, associate partner at CIP.</p>
<p>Since it entered the Indian market in 2021, CIP has forged partnerships with AmpIn Energy Transition and Viviid with the aim of commissioning several GW-scale renewable energy projects.</p>
<p>“Viviid will leverage its expertise in wind farm development, including balance-of-plant equipment supplies and services. Through this long-term partnership, we aim to further strengthen our contribution to India’s ambitious target of installing 500 GW of generation capacity from renewable sources by 2030,” said Siddharth Mehra, Founder of Viviid Renewables.</p>
<p>Last July, CIP also <a href="https://www.mercomindia.com/renewables-fund-partners-raises-6-6-billion" target="_blank" rel="noopener">raised</a> nearly $6.6 billion to channel greenfield investments for large-scale renewable energy projects across North America, Western Europe, and the Asia-Pacific region.</p>

					</table><p>Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (<a href="https://cipartners.dk/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">CIP</a>), on behalf of its New Markets Fund I (CI NMF I), has entered into a partnership with <a href="https://www.viviidrenewables.com/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Viviid Renewables</a> to develop more than 1.8 GW of greenfield renewable energy projects in India.</p>
<p>Initially, the partnership will concentrate on two onshore wind projects with a combined capacity of over 500 MW. These projects will be developed with the help of the CI NMF funds, and the partnership plans to construct them soon.</p>
<p>As part of the partnership, Viviid will provide projects from its development pipeline and take responsibility for critical development activities up to the final investment decision. It will offer design, engineering, procurement, and construction services.</p>
<p>CIP will oversee the sourcing offtake, procurement activities, and financing process while leveraging Viviid&#8217;s local experience.</p>
<p>&#8220;This is the second CI NMF I partnership in the Indian renewable energy market, reflecting India&#8217;s continuing importance as a key focus area for the fund. <p>CIP manages ten funds and has raised approximately €19 billion (~$21.3 billion) for investments in energy and associated infrastructure from more than 140 international institutional investors.</p>
<p>Viviid provides end-to-end development and balance of plant services for wind and solar projects across India.</p>
<p>Last October, CIP <a href="https://mercomindia.com/daily-news-wrap-jakson-develop-224-million-green-hydrogen-rajasthan/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">entered</a> into a partnership with Ørsted to develop around 5.2 GW of offshore wind in Denmark across four projects.</p>
<p>In February last year, CIP led a consortium of partners to <a href="https://mercomindia.com/daily-news-wrap-up-dalmia-cement-expands-captive-solar-project/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">build</a> a 500 MW green hydrogen project in Spain. The consortium consisting of CIP, Enagas, Naturgy Fertiberia, and Vestas, said the first phase of Project Catalina had reached an advanced stage of development. Catalina Phase 1 will comprise 1.7 GW of wind and solar energy facilities and a 500 MW electrolyzer. Construction is planned to start at the end of 2023.</p>
