Tata Motors will deploy 3,000 of its electric trucks across India to support e-commerce company Amazon’s freight movement between facilities, within cities, and along national highways.

Tata Motors will supply the electric trucks, while Amazon’s carrier partners will own and operate them.

As part of the arrangement, Tata Motors will begin deploying its Ultra E.7 electric trucks in Delhi.

Amazon will deploy light- and medium-duty electric trucks across its middle-mile transportation network.

The companies plan to expand deployment to major highways, including the 2,800 km Delhi-Bengaluru-Chennai corridor along National Highway 48. The corridor spans seven states and connects six of India’s largest e-commerce regions.

Charging infrastructure, including hubs being developed by electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure provider Yahhvi, will support the expansion.

Amazon said the collaboration supports its goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. It currently operates more than 15,000 electric vehicles across over 500 cities in India. It is also supporting charging infrastructure and other solutions to help its carrier partners and drivers adopt EVs.

Amazon plans to expand electric truck deployment from intracity operations to major freight corridors.

Tata Motors said the partnership will also cover charging infrastructure, servicing, and operational support.

In a move to boost domestic manufacturing of electric vehicles, the Ministry of Heavy Industries amended the Phased Manufacturing Program for N2 and N3 category electric trucks under the PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement program. The amendment increases domestic manufacturing requirements for key drivetrain components. It covers traction motors, traction motors integrated with transmissions, and traction motor controllers, including inverters. The revised requirements will apply from April 1, 2027.

Electric four-wheelers accounted for 10.1% of India’s total EV sales in the second quarter of 2026, with 84,952 units sold. Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Motors, led the segment with 32,110 units.
